‘The Icarus Deception’ by Seth Gotin
In the Greek myth there is a story of Daedallus and Icarus, they were stuck in Creta island. Daedallus invented wings made with wax to escape from the island. And he asked his son handing it over. Be careful not to fly too high or it will melt with sunlight, and also not too low or it will be wet from the water of the sea. The day has come and they flew away, but Icarus flew too high because he was so mesmerized by his figure, then the wings melted/ and he fell down to the sea and died.
People warn us not to fly too high after hearing this story, but they overlook the danger of flying too low. People are tied to the line of obedience and lead a normal life, as they have always been today. Then, they waste their time, hoping vaguely for a better life. Even at this moment, time continues to pass.
In the book, Icarus Deception, the author tells us
Leave behind the high salary and guaranteed promotion and bravely leave your way. And it’s about making your own art piece.
And also says,
As time goes by, the old safe zones are being moved through art, innovation and destruction. Therefore, flying as low as it used to be may never be a safe place. Build a new framework, connect ideas, and do art with courage, insight, creativity and determination as weapons without any set rules.
Creativity and art are not choices in a connected economy. Of course, there are dangers of unpredictability and failure, but through the process of its expression, the manifestation of connectivity, innovation and humanity are achieved. Instead of looking for the right answer, we should try something new and pursue trust, empathy, originality, leadership, humility, connection and compassion that collapsed in the industrial era. Success through this is difficult, but the cost is much lower than you can imagine, and it’s easy to try again. Let’s face the world as an opportunity and be brave. The problem is flying too low.

Then how do we do art? Let’s just write it. Let’s write it anyway. Let’s keep writing it. Publicly, and until it gets better. If you fail, life will be terrible, but you won’t be executed by death. The harshest punishment in the connected economy is the one who has not even entered the stadium. You live a real life with no time to be bored, as the danger is big.
Boldness is the future of our society. Boldness is a firm determination, stubbornness toward vision, and the spirit of creation. The moment I decided to try something special, we become something special in our own way. First, accept the phenomenon, then execute and refine. Second, learn how to make. Even if you fail at first, you know how to do it through challenges and failures. Third, don’t follow but start and repeat with the boldness at the bottom.
It’s a very bad time to expect something definite and predictable. When you feel that you have no talent or are not ready to assert, you feel you have no academic background and lose control when you accept this. The cost of failure is sometimes severe, but nothing is more than doing nothing. Without certainty, assurance and safety nets, it is rather a gift. Society rewards those who do art. Let’s start it right now.
